Crozes Hermitage is an entry point area for falling in love with the northern rhone. Maybe St Joseph is as well, but regardless it’s not so much about Crozes Hermitage as it is about Jean Baptiste Souillard. Les Baties is a higher elevation .1 hectare area with deep stony soils with tons of granitic substrate. In an area that is rife with mass produced syrah just flashing the Crozes Hermitage appellation, Jean-Baptise only lets indigenous yeast start fermentation, the wine is never filtered and never fined. This vintage is bright yet balanced. The wine is drinking insanely good now and will drink well for years to come. Classic notes for Syrah from the northern rhone are white pepper and violets- this wine moves beyond that with notes of rose. Souillard ups the ante one tiny parcel of syrah at a time!!
Serving temp: Cellar temperature around 65 degrees, store in a dark and cool spot!
