Andreas Ziniel
Andreas Ziniel, ZINI RED, Burgenland, Austria, Welschriesling/Muskateller/Sauvignon Blanc/Zweigelt, 2024
Andreas Ziniel is an inspiring winemaker in the eastern side of Burgenland in Austria. He is one of the pioneers of a less chemical and more natural wine movement in the country. Austria is a wild place, their wine industry has been through a lot and presently there is a real divide between traditional wines that are rated based less on how they are made but more for the clarity etc of the end product and wines that are really made in the tune of nature. This wine would most likely give some Austrians anxiety but honestly– I love it! The color alone is a punch up of magenta meets pomegranate. It’s a co-ferment of red and white grapes, so a wine landing sort of in the chilled red category. The wine is fresh and zingy with patches of earth all set in a mold of cranberry & hibiscus coulee. It’s like the British Bake off up in here! Listen, this wine is dope. It’s positive and fun. Plus it’s a liter bottle!
Serving temp: Chilled would be best, event fridge cold to start!
Pairing: Legit Onion rings!
